Memorial Site
May 05, 2014

The memorial site and the statue “The Protector” was dedicated on September 11, 2009.  We have since added  benches dedicating the Ladies Auxiliary for their assistance and dedicating a Line Of Duty Death which occurred in the South Omaha Fire Department when this was its own separate city prior to annexation by Omaha in June 1915 (this LODD was not placed on our monument).

This is a unique and artistic landmark that compliments our ever-growing riverfront development. The area is highly visible as it is located near the Century Link Convention Center. It is a symbol of honor and has become a respected destination for many visitors for years to come. The community can take pride in honoring these heroic firefighters. The memorial is situated next to the second largest labor monument in the United States.

The Memorial Committee of Local 385 is selling bricks with the names of current and former member of Local 385. These bricks pave the ramp leading to the statue. For $100.00 you can have the name and hiring date of any former or current member in good standing with Local 385 engraved on one of these bricks. While it is a simple idea, we feel it is the best way to involve everyone who dedicated themselves safeguarding the City of Omaha.

Fire fighters and family members can purchase the brick at the Omaha Fire Fighters Union Hall located at 60th and Grover St.
